Bologna is the 7th largest city in Italy, with population of about 380k, and the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region. This region is south of Lombardia (Milan) and Veneto (Venice), and north-east of Toscana (Florence). Bologna is just about 100 km north of Florence.
Bologna is considered the culinary capital of Italy. Several traditional Italian dishes trace their origin to Bologna. The most famous and worldwide know is of course the sauce Bolognese made with minced beef. Three other world famous foods from the Bologna region are the balsamic vinegar of Modena, the Parmesan cheese – Parmigiano-Reggiano, and the Parma ham – Prosciutto de Parma.
