Red Fort, Old Delhi, India

Red Fort was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah-Jahan (1628-58) as his Royal Residence when he moved his capital from Agra to Delhi. This part of the city is now called Old Delhi.

The British built the new city, called New Delhi in the south of Old Delhi and established there the country capital in 1920s. New Delhi became the Republic of India capital when it regained its independence in 1947.
